How did Collective Show start?
Collective Show evolved out of ABCyz.org - a group of New York based artists, curators and patrons who came together in the spring of 2009 to develop an exhibition that would showcase art collectives of the greater New York art community. The organizers of the ABCyz exhibition are now hosting a second New York event, called Collective Show, in September 2010. The purpose is to foster future shows in other cities to connect independent art groups worldwide.
Is artwork for sale?
While selling art is not the purpose of this exhibition, work may be purchased directly from the groups and artists. Each group will set its own sales parameters and will be responsible for any such transactions.
Who curates the show?
Collective Shows are aimed at being inclusive and for this reason there is not a sole curator, but an assortment of artists working together to produce something collaboratively. Individual groups may have a curator for their space, but there is no curator for the entire show.
How can I attend?
Collective Shows are free and open to the public. Check the website for updates on upcoming Collective Shows.
What’s the cost to participate?
Collective Show does not charge a participation fee. We do graciously accept donations. Exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Organizing Collective Shows
Artist groups who would like to organize a Collective Show are invited to participate as guests in a preceding Collective Show. For example, two or three groups from one city will get to know each other while exhibiting in another city. These organizing guest groups can see how a Collective Show is organized and adapt the format for their city’s Collective Show by working together and inviting local groups as well as those from other cities, thereby continuing the process.
